Maybe you have heard the history behind the POW/MIA flag. This flag has grown to become one of the most striking and powerful flags of our country. It started 1971. Mary Hoff's husband was missing in action. She wanted a symbol for those in the Vietnam and other wars who were prisoners or missing. At the time there was none yet there were service men who had been prisoner or missing for as much as seven years. By 1989 the gesture and the flag were installed over the White House. It has also become one of the most widely flown flags in the country.

This episode was taken in 97ยบ Indiana heat. After so many miles, you start to get emotional and this display literally stopped us in our tracks. It has become one of the staple videos we come back to when we talk about our flag story as FlagRunners. Fourth of July is on the horizon and it is a time to celebrate the birth of our country. We will set red, white, and blue on just about everything. But black is also a powerful color in our country. You are not forgotten.
