This is the first flagpole the Runners have come across which lives united. Double halyard system, both halyards (rope) are up, the truck is turning, the rope is wrapped nicely at the cleat. No wonder United Way in the heart of New York state is the largest fundraising organization in and for the state.

Let's just take a quick look at the numbers. United Way in central New York helps 1 in 4 people. That is 25% of the population of the central state. Never mind that over 600 companies work with United Way. Or that it is made up of over 40,000 donors. Take it from a well functioning philanthropic organization. A great flag display echoes the sentiments of a proud and great community.

The mission of the United Way:
"To increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another"
They start by caring for the flag display. The next step here would be to move the flagpole away from the crab tree. Not as hard as you think. We have a video on how to move a flagpole. We are thinking about making a more comprehensive video for heavy-duty flagpoles like this one. Moving the flagpole can be a project the whole community can get involved in. You can take the opportunity to build up some landscaping, maybe add a pathway to the flag.

United Way, thanks for flying the flag right!
